Survival

We survived the wilderness... well ok; Dubois County Campgrounds. But it was a victory for us. No deaths, no near tragadies, no illness, no major injuries. Wohooo!

We made it to camp around 530 Friday and were greeted by our camping neighbors; who we also went to school with; and he helped Bart set up our new tent. (It's huge! Like 200n sq feet huge, Bart joked that it was bigger than half the campers out there.) Us and the Allen crew were the only campers in the tent section of the camp ground so we were very at ease. They had a load of kids with them as well and are nice people so we were very comfortable with the kids running around our little area without disturbing anyone to bad or having to worry about what kind of weirdos our neighbors were.

We made some hot dogs for dinner real quick and Memaw and Papaw came out to visit. Our friends Zac and Michelle were camping also so they brought their rugrats over and we had a regular ol' campfire. I wasn't too sure how the babies would do being out of their element and that's kind of scary for me. They are on such a strict bedtime (really all the time) routine. Not only were they not home, we expected them to sleep in a tent with other noise, stay up late and experience things they had never experienced before. When they finally looked sleepy enough we took them in the tent . Little boy laid down, tossed a time or two and was out quick. Little girl on the other hand... let's just say she has a new sentence; "No Daddy, no night night." As tired as I was it was funny! She roamed the tent for a good hour and a half before finally deciding it was time to turn in. And of course...up before the sun!

Saturday morning we came home early and got showers and got a few things we had forgot. When we returned to camp we went on a monstrous walk/hike to the lake. It was Bart's genius idea to take the trail and let the kids ride their bikes...FAIL! It was far too rough and they pushed their bikes more than rode them. It wasn't easy pushing the strollers either! But once we got to the lake it was beautiful! We made a lap around it and headed back to the playground where the kids ran their little legs off. And back for dinner which was yummy (I will post this new recipe soon.) Had dinner and then Bart and Dad did some fishing and Mom and I took the kids to the park again. They literally played until they fell. After they fell a few times we called it a night and went back to camp. Bart was still fishing so I, yes I as a woman, built the fire (and no I didn't even use any of Bart's fire starting logs) We had some smores, some time outs for throwing stuff in the fire and next thing I know two babies are asleep in their strollers. YAY that was easy I thought.... oh wait, they needed diaper changes and jammies on. Another score; I got them changed and jammied up w/o waking them! It was pretty much down hill from there. All the kids were out and I soon followed.
Up and at 'em Sunday morning to get home and relax in civilization. Well ok as much civilization and relaxation as I can get with five kids; right? Got home with everyone safe and sound and in one piece. All together we only had one bee sting, one mosquito bite and only found one tick. No poison anything, no war wounds or battle scars. It's probably a good thing we got out when we did; I believe we were temping fate if we stayed any longer.

  1. Way to go girl. You are the woman. I would never even attempt it. I am glad you all made it back in one piece.
