The Sickness

Sooo...everyone in my house has had IT. Not exalty sure what IT is but we know it was some sort of virus taking over my entire household. It started LAST Monday...not three days ago Monday 10 days ago Monday; and I have had at least one sick child a day since then! Is started with C my kindergartener foster son and has not been stingy with anyone...it has been shared; probably more times in this house than the shopping carts at WalMart.
That day I went on a field trip with Alecia to the E'ville zoo. Not that I find the Mesker Park Zoo amazing; I was just looking forward to getting to sneak in some time with my favorite girl. Now I voluenteer in her class twice a week so I know the kids' personalities well. As soon as I heard HE was in my group I knew I was in trouble. But we trucked along all the way through the zoo and at the very end; I mean the very end (we were at Amazonia)
I LOOSE A CHILD!
So total panic sets in. I thought I have to tell the teacher (who probably thinks I am a failure anyways b/c my child can't behave in class) that I have lost a little boy! I knew he made it into Amazonia with us; but about 1/2 way through he was NOWHERE. Long story short-he got mixed up in the shuffle with another group that passed us up and was safe and sound with one of my favorite 1st grade teachers; Mrs. Hasenour (who knows I am NOT a failure b/c the 1st grader I had in her class 4 years ago was very well behaved.) That is how my trip to the zoo went .
Then we get back out to the bus to come home and have a dozen missed calls and texts on my phone. Bart was looking for his keys. Now that morning I had a very complex system of moving/removing car seats and keys from said keychain so that Bart could take Tomas to school at noon in my truck and I drove to school that morning in the ugly green van. I have keys to all the vehichles on my keychain and Bart does not; so I took my clicker and key to my truck off my keys and put them on Bart's keychain so that he is all set when he takes my little boy to school. Well after all that I leave with .......you guessed-both sets of keys in my purse! FAILURE!!!
So while Bart is calling my dad to take Tomas to school, Bart gets a call from the same school that...C is running a fever and needs to come home. Luckily for Dad he can take Tomas and pick up C at the same doors.
And it was on. Poor C was quarintined to his bedroom for three days while he got over the sickness. I went crazy with Lysol and bleach because I was adament that noone else was going to get this. WRONG! Everyone got it. Bart caught it next, then I had a touch of it, then the babes started their fevers Friday. Aleica and Tomas got it Saturday although I am pleased to say Tomas' only lasted a few hours. And to come full circle...I feel like a blimp b/c there is so much pressure in my head right now. But I do beleive it is on the backside of this household and will be very pleased when it decides to go somewhere else to stay for good.
The kids got report cards last week and a I am thrilled that even though Alecia's bahavior stinks her grades do not. She has met every goal so far and that just tickles me pink. I was really worried because of her kindergarten year not going so smooth with her move and all but I was pleasently surprised. Her teacher basically said with everything going on we have to wait for her maturity level to catch up with her academic level. She started kindergarten at five years and 3 weeks old. A bit too soon if you ask me; espically since her foster placement didn't send her to any preschool type program before throwing her into the fire of kindergarten. So we are trying to get her butt in gear so that she can continue to sail along like we know she can instead of taking the risk of being held back simply because she isn't mature enough to go on to the next grade. But she has lost the promise of a new kitty and even a mani/pedi day with Mom because of notes sent home from her teacher. Bummer, I really wanted a reason to get my nails done!
Mom and I are making BIG plans that I can not share beause it is a surprise-but it will be soooo good. When it happens you bet I will share. Let's just say we are saving and I have contacted Enterprise for reservations! We are so excited and can't wait for the suprise to happen.
A good friend of mine told me of this saint of a lady who is a foster mom in Arkansas and has written a book. The thought has crossed my mind. Part of the reason I blog is to keep track of things in case I ever do decide I want to give it a try and let everyone in on my wild, crazy, chaotic life filled to the max with a 2000+ suare foot house literally busting at the seems! But I wanted to pass it along. The book called MiddleMom. And you can find it at middlemom.com This is the only thing I am requesting for Christmas from my hubby and I can't wait to dig in! But her site was amazing and I urge you to check it out and get a little glimpse into her life.
I also ran across an old "friend" or aquaintance I might say from one of my first cases I had. She was the detective in charge of investigating this gruesome case (I may write of it one day) and I just wanted to tell her I thought she awesome. Lisa has met presidents worked with the CIA and FBI and has been in charge of hostage negotiations. She is just a real awesome person so when I got the chance to tell her hi I did. And what a blessing it was...she went on to tell me that I have been an ispiration to her. I was like WHAT??? You are the who rushed into this house with crazy people to rescue these kids and I inspire you?!?! Nontheless, she is great and I am happy to know her...the world is truely a better place with her in the field. So this is my shout out to Sgt. Detective Lisa Miller-we love ya and pray for your safety every day!
Nothing else....so stay away from WalMart shopping carts and keep all your kids with you at the zoo!
